Healthy Habit #1: Dress for Success

surprised to not see any New Year's Resolutions up in herrrrrr?!

I figured since I rarely stick to them, I'd try something new. This year isn't about resolutions but more about healthy habits. I figured I could handle 1 healthy habit per week, you know.. to make it stick!

I've spent a lot of time this past week thinking about why I constantly struggle with my weight ...1) I know how to eat right and 2) exercise right, so why can't I keep the weight off?! I've devised some healthy habits to hopefully assist me in working through my baggage.

Healthy Habit #1: Dress for Success!

Cliche, I know, but I don't know how else to word it. I know I'm not the only one who lets themselves go once the scale starts to creep up. I think I do it for 2 reasons: 1) I want to hide behind baggy and dull clothes, so that no attention is drawn to me. 2) I feel like a loser for not having succeeded so I may as well look like one too.

My dress for success is actually: doing my make-up. I'm not a huge make-up wearer to begin with.. it could be that I went to an all-girl high school and didn't need to wear make-up but it was something that just wasn't impressed upon me and it's easy for me to fall into the trap of not doing my hair or make-up. Thing is, I feel much more confident when I do.

Confidence (to me) = making healthier choices.

I've also timed it... doing my make-up takes max. 8 mins.
My long hair takes a bit longer now but what it boils down to is...

So, I'm shooting for 7 days of make-up. There is no reason that I can't take 8 mins out of my morning routine to do my make-up. Hell, I spend more time waking up to Facebook and Twitter than if I did my make-up. If it makes me feel better, therefore helping me make better choices, I need to do it. Period.

Do you struggle with dressing for success if you've gained a few pounds?
How do you combat feelings of failure?

  1. Oh this is so me. The more I gain, the less I care, until I'm wearing pajamas and dirty hair with no makeup for days. It's terrible. When I'm doing better, I feel better, so I make more of an effort. I'm a low maintenance girl even on my best days, but how I feel about my body definitely makes a difference. I love the idea that you could reverse engineer it, making yourself feel better so you'll act better. Have fun with your makeup! I love doing mine.

  2. Happy New Year Rebecca! I know what you mean about resolutions & not wanting to make them & then break them--but the healthy habits idea is a great one!
I definitely believe you are right-putting on a look that at least looks like you are confident definitely helps you feel more confident & good about yourself. My concept of "Smile, It Helps"...fake it until it becomes a reality-is definitely one I believe in.
And just know that you ARE a success & have been an inspiration for me through this journey so strut your stuff girl & know that you ARE a success :-D

  3. @Heather I'm exactly the same way and wearing pajamas or workout pants are the worst! I swear, I don't realize when I gain weight if I'm wearing spandex non-stop!

@Julia thank YOU for the awesome compliment!
