It's quite dreary over here in the mitten state.. I keep on trying to tell myself we need this rain and drear before it can be summer but...I'm not quite believing it myself yet!
So I told ya'll yesterday that I've been in/am in somewhat of a workout funk. Truth is that my hip is still giving my problems.. I'm beginning to think it may be my shoes, so new shoes it is today! Thanks to a 20% coupon and a gift card, cuz that's how I roll nowadays!
What's your fave running brand shoe?
I've strictly been an Asics girl but the last two shoes I've run in have been Adidas and New Balance. Let's see what I bring how today!

If I workout 5 - 6 times a week, I want to create the biggest calorie deficit that I can, and if you've ever worn your HRM during a session well, you know what it's going to say.
However in my great funk, I ventured out and decided to give Bikram a try. Bikram, because I knew it would be in a hot room and allow me to sweat.
What I didn't anticipate:
- was the smell. A combination of warmed up split pea soup and co-op.
- sweaty man balls in front of my face
- obscene grunting from said man and his sweaty balls.
I didn't go back.

I skipped the first week of Yoga X, but decided to give it a try this past week.
I'm not gonna say I loved it. I did it for 45 minutes before my mind started to wander, at which I stopped the DVD.
What I enjoyed about this particular DVD is that it was challenging, fast pasted, and perhaps a tad on the cardio side? I can't really judge since I'm no yoga expert but I was sweating by the end. I liked it enough, I'll be doing it again next Sunday. how 'bout that?
Anyone else have any fave cardio type yoga DVD's they want to recommend?

Is Yoga X part of P90X? If so, I heard from a friend that's also a big runner that she wasn't a fan. The mind wandering thing hit home with her.
ReplyDeleteIf you like active yoga, but not sweaty man balls (because who likes that?) I'd really tell you to give Vinyasa yoga a try. It's fairly fast-paced, and still done in a hot room so that you sweat -- but not as hot as a Bikram studio.
You might also have to try several studios before you find one you like. I think I went to three before I finally found one that worked for me. Good luck!
the last time i did bikram there was a sweaty old guy in spandex in front of me that kept ripping farts...
ReplyDelete*shudder*
I used to view yoga as a means to an end...it was just another exercise that maybe possibly would help me lose weight. And so I didn't like it. Now I that view yoga as a healing art and an awareness making activity I LOVE it...I don't do it for cardio I do it for love and for health.
ReplyDeleteI can totally understand where you are coming from with wanting a calorie deficit and yoga not hitting the spot with it so I have been really hesitant to give it a try. I do have a yoga dvd and have been thinking about doing it, I may just think about it a little longer. I do like Karen's comment about how it isn't for cardio, but more of a healing thing!!
ReplyDeleteYou are a brave, brave girl trying Birkram, there is no way I would ever set foot inside one of those classes and not because of the smell or sweaty man balls :) but because of the heat, there is no way I would be able to tolerate it for more than 5 mins. Also, after reading Ria's comment about the spandex and farts I am glad I will never be doing a Birkram class :)
I'm going to watch the Expo channel on Fox to see if I can find the infomercial for P90X - I am intrigued.
Have a good day xx
A Super Girl: Yup, Yoga X is part of the P90X curriculum. I definitely agree with you that I need to try a few yoga studios. I really wish I could try a Yoga Shelter, someone else recommended them to me.
ReplyDeleteRia: hahahaha...that's probably how the room smelled!
Karen: I 100% agree with you. I'm just not quite there yet.
Jane: or you can just go to the website...beachbody.com or something. the host talks about it a few times during the DVD!
I have the Yoga Booty Ballet dvds ... and I do all of it - except the yoga. I tried it a few times and just got so incredibly bored. I guess I prefer the cardio and dancing around to the strange poses.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a little traumatized by your old man balls and grunting experience. You poor thing!!
