Anywhoo...lemme tell you how surprised I was to see that I got the Zumba video for the Kinect, considering we didn't own the Kinect, for Christmas.
Little did I know, someone had bougtht it for himself as a Christmas present, ya know, under the disguise I would use it too! ;) HA...
Lemme preface that although Nate has wanted to get the WiiFit, I have had no desire to get one.
Reasons why I don't want a WiiFit:
- I don't like working out at home but also, I know I can't get my heart rate up to the zones that I need them to be for a serious workout.
- I workout in the living room which is on the main floor and if I do any jumping, fast moving, I worry I'm gonna fall through the floor into the basement.
But since Nate got the Zumba game for me, I figured I may as well give it a try.
CON: you have to go through a gazillion menus before you finally get to the actually workout. I'm not kidding. It's somewhat frustrating when all I wanna do is DANCE!
PRO: the music, in my opinion, is better than in the DVD's.
CON: there is an expert and beginner pace..what about us intermediates?!
PRO: maybe because it's new, but I feel like the dances are better than from the DVD's.
CON: if you leave the realm of the Kinect, the game resets itself and you have to start from the beginning. <-- THIS IS THE WORST and in my opinion, probably the worst feature of the Zumba Kinect
Overall, I like it, I wouldn't have bought it for myself but I am using it about twice a week.
I truly believe these games area geared towards people who:
- may be starting out a fitness routine for the first time
- mama's who can't leave the house and will own the system anyways
Finally catching up on blogs and life, ha! Wow Rebecca, you've accomplished a lot recently. Congrats with your WI's and how exciting that you are plugging away at your 1/2 training plan. I also love the Inspiration board, you are on fire! Go Rebecca Go!
ReplyDeleteFoo: hihihi..are you back at work?! ;)
ReplyDeletethanks! the last few weeks have been good!
I've never tried any at-home gaming system workouts...but I think I agree with you. people most likely to use it are those who are beginners or who can't go to the gym. I'm not against it, but it's not really on my list of things to do---most people say they like it but then don't stick to it!

I bought Scott he Kinect for Christmas, but he had to return it :( We don't have enough room in our family room, or any other room in our house with a tv. We were disappointed because it looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteWe got the Kinect for the kids and I have been thinking of getting a fitness game for it - and I have been wanting to try Zumba. Maybe I will give this a try.
ReplyDeleteWe have WiiFit and its OK. It was great when it first came out because it was the best at the time but there are so many more options now.
If you have the Wii and you want to dance you will LOVE Just Dance 2. It has a workout mode and after 5 songs or so, you can really feel your heart pumping. There is a large variety of songs from Elvis to Ke$ha and everything in between. We have been having way too much fun with it.
