Big Changes

Hey. Wow... things have been so busy, and so many things are changing, I just haven't had the time to sit down and post.

Busy = NOT thinking about eating/food = LOSING weight

I've been OP for the past 2 days (even yesterday when we went out for sushi...I did phenomenally well!!!!!), I've been exercising..I'm just doing good.

I met up my friend, N., yesterday for some early morning tennis. I LOVE playing tennis and I love playing with her because she's better than me. Not that much better that she's bored but still better that I have to work hard. The only downside for her is, she's out of shape. She's out of breath, needs water, etc.

She's so determined to get back in shape and I think it's tough for her, a former athlete, to see someone like me (not a former athlete however I'll be damned if I won't be one here shortly!) in decent shape.

Anyways, she really wants to run the Detroit Marathon in October, however she couldn't find anyone to do it with her. Sssssooooo......I did agree to do it.

HOLY EFFING SH!T!!! 26.?? MILES!!

Oh lord...thats approximately 19 weeks away!! I currently run about 3.5+ miles in 45 mins. Not great time and I'm typically EXHAUSTED at the end of those 45 mins. So for the next 2 weeks, before I start my marathon training, I'm attempting to stabilize my breathing/heart rate, so if ANY OF YOU have any advice, web sites, knowledge...I would really appreciate the help!

We are running our first 5K July 4th, The Tortoise and the Hare (how fitting, eh?), and thereafter plan on doing a run every 2 weeks.

I'm totally GEEKED!!! I'm sure a lot of you have noticed my frustration with the scale lately, and I think this event is allowing me to focus on something else. Something impossible! Knowing that I want to participate in this event, being a rookie, and not wanting to fail is making me opt for healthier choices.

For example at dinner last night, I only had 6 rolls - 4 cali and 2 spicy salmon. Typically I have 9+. I allowed myself all the sashimi I wanted. The rest of my fam had Coldstone, I did not. I did try a CocoaVia bar...and oh my...delicious and I don't even like dark chocolate!

I dont know ... this could be a wave I'm riding but I hope not. I hope that from now until the marathon and thereafter, I'm a stellar WW! Pin It Print Friendly and PDF

  6. I met one of my friends when she was about 190 and could walk about five miles a day but never thought of running. A year later, she was in a marathon like that and though she did not win, she finished it and she has become a total lean runner.

Ahh, to have smaller boobage and to be able to run ;)

  9. WOW! Good for you, sister!

And congrats on the marathon commitment. I hope to one day compete in one (well not compete, just finish one). I remember mentioning it to 2 of my friends who literally laughed at me. I've never forgotten that they laughed, and one day I WILL be in a marathon too.

und ja...i think way too much when i clean ..why would anybody call a 5k "tortoise and hare" ..
are they aware of the saga ?
who is smarter ...the running hare or the con-artist named "tortoise"
do they realize the end of the story ..what happened to the hare??

  15. I'm on a similar plan with much less ambitious goals. I'm going to join a friend for a 10K at the end of October. Which seems really far to me!! I will keep checking back in with you to see how you are doing! Good luck!!

    ok Duenneschen ...
so a company that sponsors races calls themselves "t...& Hare ..."??
Do they realize the hare drops dead at the end of the story ??
After all, its a Brothers Grimm fairytale ..
and ..i appreciate the smartypants..its much better as "fatpants" ;-))

  17. I bought the book "The Complete Book of Running for WOmen" by Clair Kowalchik when I was training for my 10K. I really liked it. I went on to Amazon and they have some used for $4.05.

Unfortuntely I decided half way through my training that I am not a runner. I don't really enjoy it, and I was really forcing myself to do it. Some people are runners and some people are walkers. I am a speed walker. That's just the way it is. Anyway maybe look into that.

Good luck! I think it's great that you have a new goal to work towards. Can't wait to hear how the training and everything goes!

  18. Wow, what a great goal to work towards to! YOU CAN DO THIS and I wish you best of luck and lots of motivation for it!
